Today we did something new. No leaves, no mountains, not even any critters(Well except for a falcon and a goat), just miles and miles of traffic.Today we went to a football game! Navy vs Air Force and what a game it was going to be! After the 2 and a half hours of driving and the 1/2 hour hike from where we had to park we reached the game at half time! (Warning: If you ever head to a game at the Air Force Academy and you don't leave at 8 in the morning for a 12:30 game...wear tennis shoes.)
We had really good seats close to the field. There were lots and lots of men and women in uniform everywhere. It made me feel proud. We made it to our seats where were were sardined in among Navy parents, friends and family.Dawn's friend works for the Navy team and got us tickets. The game was pretty exciting and it was good to be at a game again- the smells of grilled foods, the sounds of people shouting for their teams. I was in band all through high school and some of college and haven't been to a game since. The parents around us were so much fun. There was an older man who had a little yellow megaphone and he just kept shouting through it like the team could hear him.The Navy band was near us as well. The Navy goat mascot jumped up into the stands and was lifted up by members of the band.
They had a sold out crowd at 47,000 I think. Unfortunately the Navy side lost 14-6.Game Highlights The coolest part of the whole game was at the end when the Air Force won, the stands started to empty onto the field as the men and women in the green jumpsuits(Zoomies) jumped over the wall and onto the field.
It was like sea of green overflowing the wall. Then the whole field came to the Navy side and sang their song and then the whole crowd turned and went to the other side of the field where they sang the Air Force song.
After the game and the hike back to the car, we stopped at a Mexican food restaurant. I think it was called El Padrino. It had the coolest water running down glass wall in the entryway and behind the bar. I wish we would have gotten a pic of it. The food was very good. I had fajitas and they were awesome! Very little veggies lots of juicy meat:) The service was fast and friendly. There was a reunion of the Air Force Academy going on in their back room. One of the men had to come over and give Dawn greif because she had her Navy shirt on. It was all in good fun.The drive back was a lot shorter :)
All and all a very fun day!
